Seville, Andalucia
The Paris of Southern Spain, Seville is the cultural, financial and historic capital of Andalucia and the fourth largest city in Spain. Located about an hour from the coastal port city of Cadiz, Seville enjoys an average temperature of 26C (75F). It is a beautifully diverse city, boasting ancient Venetian style lanes with hidden piazzas, stylish shopping arcades, riverboat tours, award winning parks and the one of the largest Cathedrals in the world.
There are a staggering range of cafes and restaurants spread across the city. No surprise that Tapas is one of the most popular menu choices and with good reason. I recommend Restaurante el Giraldillo, located at Plaza Virgen de los Reyes. See Seville map.
Seville Cathedral is an immense and captivating structure and one of the oldest and largest in the world, dating back to 1402. Tours are available daily.
Music and art are fused perfectly in two of Seville’s most famous cultural achievements, flamenco and opera. Seville is the home of Carmen, possibly the most famous opera in the world. You can enjoy performances at several theatres including Teatro de la Maestranza, by the river on Paseo Colon. There are several flamenco restaurants in the city, where dinner and a show are included. Don’t worry, these are easy to find.
Excellent transportation makes it easy to travel to other parts of Andalucia from Seville for day trips or overnight stays. Cadiz, for example, is just an hour away by car or a little longer by train from Seville’s main train station.
